Peeping Friday

Bit late...oops!

Hubby and I have decided to sell and move to a smaller home.
Well with this in mind...I thought I would share a picture of our landfill....I mean den! I promised Jane some months back that I would share a picture of my messy den since she was brave enough to do the same.

How in the heck do rooms get so cluttered...sigh

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Peeping Friday

As I promised, Fridays will have a special surprize.
While browsing the blog world one day I came across a knitting blog of a lady in Norway. Made By Mannehas something she does called Peeping Fridays. She posts a picture each Friday a picture that gives you a glimpse into her life. What an idea!

So today I start Peeping Fridays as well.

This week I have been nursing a sick child. She started with headache, and fever which has progressed to headache, sore throat, fever, dry cough and dizziness. Enough! Today we visited the doctor and he has put her on antibiotics to stop this invasion of germs.

As a mother, nothing is worse than dealing with a sick child. The feeling of helplessness is overwhelming. But with medication, liquids and lots of cuddles, and snuggles, my monster is now on the mend. And with any luck those nasty germs will find a new home far away from this house.

Procrastination

I am the queen of procrastination. "Afterall tomorrow is another day!" as Scarlett O'Hara would say. Never would of guessed that she is one of my favorite heroines.

One of my New Years resolutions was to start completing as many "works in progress" as possible this year.
A project that has been in the works for over 5 months is my project of the day.
A dear friend, after seeing the dresser I painted for my daughter, asked me to paint some old melamine pieces for her daughter. The dresser and nightstand were completed withing one month. However, the desk with hutch has been a true chore. Not sure exactly why...but I just couldn't get my butt in gear and work on it.

So 2 weeks ago I committed to finishing this project and yesterday I put on the final coat of varnish. Yipee! So another uncompleted project is done.

It feels so good to finish something that has just been sitting around, gathering dust and taunting me from afar.
A group I join last year
A Loving Home has a reminder sent out every Wednesday called Anti-Procrastination Day. Boy is this right up my alley. You are supposed to pick something you have been putting off and accomplish it. The reminder sure helps.

So now onto my next uncompleted project.

A big Thanks!!!!

I am so behind...sigh
I enjoy swaps and always remember the personal thank you however, I do forget to post my thank you's publicly for all to see.

Firstly I was part of a Valentine's swap hosted on Knitting with the classics
My fellow swappee Puanani
sent me a marvelous gift package.

The Hello Kitty Pez dispenser almost didn't stay in my possession. My daughter loved it!! And the zipper pull was fantastic. Never seen an angel one before.

Thanks Debbie for the great gifts. Now its time to sit down and read the book.

I also am participating in
SP7
I have been having a hoot spoiling a person who will remain anonymous until I make my reveal. Also, my spoilee has been great to me. Even though life has been hectic and she has been having some family problems, she remembered to send me this wonderful surprize.

So once again, a big thank you to those ladies who have taken a moment out of their busy lives to make my day just a little bit brighter.

The Blahs.....

Lately I have had the blahs. Never sure what to write. Not able to really enjoy much of any craft or activity. Not sure if it is the mood of the day or the weather outside. Lack of sunshine can depress anyone. Because of this I have been neglecting my blog. So I have decided to shake things up.

My new Monday task will be to write 10 things that I am grateful for from the past week. Atleast this way I will be guaranteed a topic to write about...LOL

Affirmation of the week: No person, place or thing has any power over me, for I am the only thinker in my mind.

I am gratefull for:
1. my daughter's laughter
2. the squeeze from my husband's hand for absolutely no reason
3. The bright sunshine
4. A call from a friend just to say hi
5. the warm water in the kettle waiting for me as I walk thru the door after work
6. The words "I love you"
7. crisp winter mornings
8. moments of solitude to read and relax
9. completing a project that has taken too long to finish
10. being happy with who I am becoming

I also am stealing an idea from another blogger.....this will show up on Friday.
Stay tuned!

Happy Heart Day

Today is the international day of love. And being the hopeful romantic that I am, I am all for this holiday. Yes there is much consumerism associated with it...but in my mind...Rhett and Scarlett will find there way back to each other, Cathy and Heathcliff finally find happiness and Illsa comes back to Rick. Yes a true hopeful romantic!!!

I love happy endings, sentiments of love and snuggling with my hearts desire.

However my hearts desire isn't the most up on this sappy sentiment....knowing this doesn't dampen my spirit. I figure I am gooshy enough for both of us....LOL

So imagine my surprize when I opened the door this afternoon to find this waiting there for me.......

Isn't love grand?
Thanks sweetie.
I love you!!!!

First FOs of 2006

One of my New Years Resolutions was not to add to my bulging craft room and the many projects I have either started or bought supplies to do.
With this in mind I started the new year working on a cross-stitching kit I bought only 8 months ago...lol

This project is a christmas banner of a dog and cat carolling. Cute as can be and finally finished to proudly display next holiday season.

With this project proudly under my belt, I set out to find another unfinished craft lost in the abyss of my craft room. Back in December I had stumbled upon a LYS with the most heavenly selection of yarns. As I browsed the shelves I came across something so soft I knew it had to come home with me. I happily bought 5 balls of Luxury Collection Alpaca Silk in Wine and stored it for future use.

I looked thru my "hopeful" patterns and decided upon Clapotis
Deciding on the stole-size I began my journey. About 2/3 the way thru I ran out of the lovely wool and headed to the LYS to purchase more only to find out that they no longer had the color in stock. After some hyperventilating, I decided to browse e-bay and found a vender who sold the wool but had none of my lovely wine listed. My dearest hubby suggested e-mailing the person to see if they had some in stock somewhere.

The next morning I found an e-mail from this person saying they were just about to list the said color as an auction. Promptly 5 more balls were bought....I was not going to run out again. After another week of work, I can happily say that another project is done.

So now I have 2 completed forgotten projects finished. What should I do next?
Sewing, Knitting, Crocheting, Painting, Scrapbooking. Hmmmmm???

Stay tuned to find out.

Books in Review

I started the New Year promising myself that I would read atleast one book each month.

Last month's selection was given to me by my aunt. She is an aspiring author and her idea of a good time is to read a book and dissect it. This book passed her inspection and was given to me with rave reviews.

January's selection is

Dead Run by Erica Spindler

The book begins with Pastor Rachel Howard. She is panicked and we are unsure as to why but we know she is in trouble. This leads to Rachel's sister coming to Key West to find out what happened to her sister.

This book is full of twists and turns. Beyond each bend we meet another character and delve into their lives. We find that many of these lives intersect and this leads to more questions....more wonderings of "WHY". The author keeps you guessing from page to page as to what is happening and who is to blame.

And the best part is that throughout this mystery there is a hint of romance but a realistic romance.

I recommend this book to anyone. I read it in 4 days...was unable to put it down and refused to do much else during that time.

I am also part of a group that combines knitting and reading the classics.
Knit the Classics committed us to reading Mrs. Dalloway by Virgina Wolf (yes I know I am a few weeks behind...lol) I was thrilled when I saw this as the selected book. Ever since seeing and reading "The Hours", I have been fascinated with this book. However, I am finding this to be a true challenge.

Many on the blog are raving about the book. How great a read it was! But me...I haven't gotten past page 27. The continuous dialogue I am finding difficult to follow. Therefore this book has been set aside for a later read.

Next to come is "Memoirs of a Geisha"
A friend has loaned me the book and I am ready to dive in. Hopefully I won't be too disappointed after the movie. Usually I love the books if I read them after and the movie I found a true joy!!

What do you believe?

The song "Angels Among Us" by Alabama has always struck a cord with my heart.
I firmly believe that things happen to help us when we are lost, confused, hurting or just need a helping hand.
Today as I reflect on my life and what I want to do with it....what comes along in my e-mail but something from Beliefnet.
It felt like a warm hug when I needed it.
Thought maybe I should share it with others......

What Can We Give?
Fifteen special gifts you can give anytime--and that don't cost a cent!
By Hal Urban

When we give our time we give our lives. It’s the foundation of these fifteen special gifts. You may not have previously thought of them as gifts, but they are. If you look upon them in this way you’ll be much more likely give them and be a blessing to others.

1. The Gift of Personal Communication
How do you feel when someone contacts you out of the blue for the sole purpose of reminding you that you’re a treasured friend? You feel the same way everyone else does—special, loved, appreciated. And you can brighten someone else’s life any day of the week. This can be done with a phone call, a handwritten note, or an e-mail, and none take more than a few minutes.
2. The Gift of Quotations
I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t appreciate a good quotation. That’s why I put so many of them in my books—they’re a gift to my readers, especially those who have expressed appreciation for them. The beauty of a good quotation is that it’s brief, to the point, full of wisdom and advice, and a boost for the spirit. Find them, collect them, and share them. It’s a simple way of giving someone a lift.

3. The Gift of a Good Recommendation
When you make a great discovery, one that in some way enriches your life, share it with others. It could be a book (like this one, I hope), a play, a movie, a restaurant, a recipe, an article, a product, a service, a TV program, or a music CD. When you make these kinds of recommendations, you’re really saying, “This brought some joy to my life. I want it to do the same for you.”

4. The Gift of a Helping Hand
All of us appreciate it when someone not only offers to help, but actually follows through. We’re all faced with tasks—some big, some small; some important, some trivial; some requiring skill, some menial. Whatever it is, it always goes better with the help of another person. Whether on the job, at home, in school, or out socially, the gift of help is always appreciated.

5. The Gift of Laughter
I’ve never met anyone who didn’t like to laugh. It’s one of the happiest and most healthy activities known to the human race. Victor Borge said, “Laughter is the shortest distance between two people.” It’s also a life enhancer and a great gift, one that can be given easily and often. Don’t let those funny jokes, stories, bloopers, signs, and one-liners fade away. Share them with others.

6. The Gift of Listening
There are many times when someone close to us wants only one thing—our full and undivided attention. Listening intently to another person, with our eyes and with our hearts, silently says, “What you have to say, and the feelings behind your words, are important. Right now this is the best gift I can give you. I value our friendship.”

7. The Gift of an Invitation
I regard all invitations, whether to a major event, a wedding, a party, a sporting event, or lunch with a friend, as special gifts. Whenever we ask someone to join us, we’re really saying, “I want you to be there. Your company is cherished. You have something good to offer.” We all want to be included, to be asked to join in, for a simple reason—sharing experiences with other people is one of the greatest joys of life.

8. The Gift of Physical Affection
How do you feel when someone gives you a hug, a warm handshake, a friendly pat on the back, a kiss on the cheek, an affectionate touch? If you’re a normal, red-blooded, breathing, living human being, you feel great. Alan Loy McGinnis, an esteemed counselor and author, advises, “Use your body to demonstrate warmth.” With the right people and in the proper setting, that’s exactly what acts of fondness do. Give this gift of affection liberally.
9. The Gift of Appreciation
When someone does something thoughtful for us, regardless of its nature, it’s a gift. We can give another gift in return simply by expressing our appreciation. The great psychologist and philosopher William James said, “The deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated.” We can satisfy that craving, and give a gift, every time we express our appreciation.

10. The Gift of Good Advice
Not everyone asks for it or wants it, but there are times when good advice is the greatest gift of all. The reason is that it can change lives. Countless accomplished people throughout history have cited good advice as the key to their success. When the opportunity is there and the other person is willing to listen, never hesitate to give this precious gift.

11. The Gift of Encouragement
One of the greatest things you can do for another person is give encouragement. The word means, literally, to give courage. Sometimes it’s all a person needs to get started on something important. History is full of stories about people who achieved great things because of someone else’s encouragement.

12. The Gift of Patience
This is actually a dual gift, because patience always comes as the result of understanding. That’s what we most want from other people, especially those closest to us. We especially need their patience and understanding when we’re not at our best. They’re gifts that enrich relationships by allowing them to grow. We can give the same gift to our family members, friends, and colleagues.

13. The Gift of Empathy
Any time we can share feelings with another person, whether they’re of sorrow or joy, we give a treasured gift. When Cathy’s dad died unexpectedly in his midfifties some years ago, she experienced both shock and loss. The greatest comfort she received was from people who had also lost a parent under similar circumstances. They were able to identify with her, understand what she was going through, offer hope, and let her know they were there for her.

14. The Gift of Forgiveness
This is the ultimate win-win gift. Both the giver and the receiver get something of great value—healing. We’re all in need of it because we’ve all been hurt and offended by someone else. It makes it easier to forgive them when we remind ourselves that we’ve also caused pain in others. Forgiveness releases us from unnecessary negative emotions and allows us to move on to better things.

15. The Gift of Prayer
It was not a coincidence that I received an e-mail, a phone call, and a handwritten note about prayer while writing this chapter. Each one was from a dear friend who was not only thinking about me but praying for me. What made the gift even more special was that I hadn’t asked for the prayers. Since I look upon prayer—communication with God—as the highest activity of which a human being is capable, and because I know the sincerity of these people, their gifts became lasting treasures.

Definitely words to think about!!!!

Reflections......

This morning I woke up in a very reflective mood!
I have spent most of the time since thinking back on my life. Looking at where I was, what I wanted out of life and where I am now.

Nothing is more disheartening than looking at your life and wondering "what happened!?"

Don't get me wrong. I love so many aspects of my life. My husband and my daughter are at the top of that list! I wouldn't change that part for anything. But I remember being interesting, caring about myself, wanting to learn, be more. Somewhere along the way I forgot how to be fun....forgot to continue learning...forgot to strive for more....and I just settled.

As my daughter approaches the most difficult time in a person's life - Jr. High, she will be questioning who she is, where is her life headed and what are her beliefs...her desires....her dreams. Scarey thing is I think that at 40, I am experiencing the same growing pains...LOL

It is time to re-evalute me. What are my dreams! What do I want out of my life! Who do I want to be when I "grow-up"....or do I want to "grow up"

Any suggestions...?

Reflection and Resolution

Well hello strangers...LOL

It seems like forever since I last made a post.

The end of 2005 was a very trying time for me personally. Not going to bore you all with the messy details.....but I do see a light at the end of the tunnel finally.

I have been told on many occasions that trying times are what makes us grow as human beings. It teaches us to break out of our comfort zones and become more of who we were meant to be. Let us hope that this is true. I would hate to think that I learned nothing from all this that I have endured!

Today I decided to post my goals or New Years Resolutions...only to reflect on December 31, 2006 and see what I have been able to accomplish.

It is a "me" year. It seems like forever I have put others needs and wants before mine....this year I am making sure to remember me.

1) Health - at least 30 mins of cardio daily, eat healthy (reduce snacking) and have atleast 8 glasses of water daily.

2) Declutter home. I figure if I focus on one room per month, I will finish the house within the year with time to spare.

3) Focus on improving relationships. Spend quality time with daughter and hubby...together as a family and individually. Remember friends, near and far with notes, phone calls, etc.

4) Treat myself each month....new item for wardrobe, facials, manicure/pedicures

5) Learn to ride a motorcycle....learn to play a guitar

6) Read a new book each month.

7) Start no new projects until all started projects are complete.
Note: I have so many projects (knitting, sewing, etc) that I have bought supplies for and occasion even started. I will keep you posted.

So what do you think? Not bad.
Everyone has to start somewhere.

Just FYI....book reading for January is Dead Run by Erica Spindler.
Weight this morning was 155lbs and water count is 8 glasses water/4 green tea

Here's to a new year...a new beginning....a new journey!!!!

Gifts!

This has been a couple of weeks for gifts.
AND....I am liking it...LOL

Firstly, a pal I made on knitting parents and then flyingselfchallenge.
Claudiais a doll!
She has been one of my greatest supporters in my quest for health. So she sent me a small gift to reward me for my efforts.
The card and stitch markers are awesome...stitch markers have dragonflies on them for luck.

Onto friend number two.....
In today's mail was a package from my Southern SP.
What a pick-me-up!!!
It was like Christmas....
First this is what I saw......
And then after the fury of ripping open all the little packages....I found a cute card complete with made-for-me poem, a knitting clam, wool wash, stitch markers, soap and 2 balls of a soft red wool called Beautiful by Sensations.

I see a nice fuzzy scarf in my near future...stay tuned for futher pictures.

So to my dear pals out there...THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

What you don't know

When I started this blog, it was to document the changes I had decided to make in my life. It is only through change that our spirit can grow.
First it was physical. One of the easier changes...lol
But I, also, hoped to include my mental and emotional changes as well.

Many of you know that I am the proud mom of a beautiful almost 10 year old daughter. And even though we clash on many occassions, she is my greatest joy!
What you don't know is that I am also the mom of two beautiful boys who now run with the angels.

The reason I posted the picture below is to introduce you to my first son, Matthew.
When Sheridan was 22 months old our home was expanded my one....this beautiful boy.
I believed that my family was complete. Boy and girl, husband and wife. Who could ask for anything more perfect. He was gorgeous...huge blue eyes surrounded by the longest eyelashes and the joy of all who met him...especially his big sister.
The two would just sit for hours, in the silence and you could see their contentment.

However, one week before Christmas, we took Matthew to emergency for dehydration, only to have him have a seizure. We were admitted and all seemed clear 2 days later.

3 weeks later, we went to emergency again and he once again had a couple of seizures. We were admitted to the Children's hospital...put with a neurologist and numerous tests were completed. By only God's luck we were paired with a neurologist who had dealt with Matthew's illness, 16 years before. He was diagnosed with Menkes or kinky hair syndrome.

We were brought into the doctor's office and informed that the disease our precious son had was terminal. They had no clue what would happen over time or how long he had, all they could say was that he was only ours for a short time.

Menkes

We were blessed with knowing this beautiful little boy for 14 months. August 26, 1997 to October 15, 1998. Yesterday was his birthday into heaven.

I often think of the scene in "Steel Magnolias" where the mom says she was blessed to be there when that beautiful creature came into the world and when she left. I was blessed in such a way.

My husband and I made his comfort our mission. He was only in the hospital one more time and that was to insert a feeding tube which they thought he would not recover from. But his spirit fought back and he stayed another 2 months.

After 3 years of grieving, and having the genetics doctors tell us that I couldn't be a carrier...we tried again...only to find out at 17 weeks that Zachary too had the disease. Making the most difficult choice of my life, I decided I couldn't let him suffer as much or worse than Matthew had, so I terminated the pregnancy. This was difficult on more than one level because I truly am a Pro-lifer for myself. But motherhood won out over my value system.

I am not telling you this tale to make you sad or have you feel pity for me.
Knowing these two boys has been a double-edged sword. I was privileged to know them and I wouldn't wish away any of my time with them, because that would be the same as not wanting them...and that would be a true crime.

I want the world to know about these two precious souls.
I still struggle daily with the lost and don't know if I will ever totally heal but there are days when I can go without thinking every hour about them.
This also has placed me on another journey with my husband...but that is another day's discussion.

So tonight as you tuck your children into bed, realize what a gift you have.
Yes they drove you insane and they will again tomorrow. They know how to push our buttons and how to say the nastiest of things. But at the same time...they are only ours for such a small amount of time.

Treasure the gift while you have it....and remember two precious angels now and then.

Sunday check in

Good Morning everyone :-)

Its Thanksgiving here in Canada and I am thankful for so many things.
But the main thing is that I have finally started to take my health seriously.
This exercising and changing of lifestyle will in the long run improve my life in so many different ways.

Hitch your wagon to a star!
-Ralph Waldo Emerson, American philosopher and poet

Weekly Update
1. What is your current weight?
159 (160)(166)(166)(165)(166)

2. What have you done well this week? What makes you proud of you?
I have exercised 7 days this week...even when my mood has not been really focused on the task. Once I start, I always start enjoying the movement.
I have also been watching my snacking intake. Its amazing how I really don't miss the snacks. If I do indulge I have a taste over a bowlful.

3. What could you be doing better or improving?
I need to look into increasing my weight level. Right now I am using 2lb weights and it is getting a bit too easy. Time for 5lbers.
Also, I really need to look more at getting my water intake up.

4. What is your game plan for next week?
Increase intake of water, eat breakfast everyday and increase weights.

Now take the time and think about what you are thankful for!!!

Finally!!!!

So after a month of struggling to get the scale to move, I finally reached success!
I never thought this day would come, or that it would mean so much...lol
Exercise and good eating obviously do lead to good things - in time.

When you alwasy do your best, you take action.
Doing your best is taking action because you love it, not because you're expecting a reward.

My intact of food and water is something that still needs lots of managing.

A lightbulb moment

Nothing splendid has ever been achieved except by those who
believed that something inside of them was superior to circumstance
- Bruce Barton, American advertising executive, writer and congressman

Today as I was preparing to give my weekly update on my health challenge, I was very disheartened to read my scale. 166lbs again! How can that be?
I have exercised every day religiously for 1 full month.

Almost on the verge of tears I hear a little voice say (hubby sounding) "you know muscle weighs more than fat!" I just wanted to box his ears. Is this what I wanted to hear....no!....I wanted that silly dial on the scale to read differently.

And then the lightbulb flew up. Yes muscle does weigh more than fat. I had decided to focus mostly on my exercise this month and I had done that. Looking at my body in the mirror (not always an easy task) I noticed my stomach flattening, my arms are more defined in their tone and my butt is lifting. Isn't that lots? Then as I contemplated this futher, I realized that it had taken me 17 years to get where I am at now...so what made me think that one month would take me to where I need to go.

This revelation was a true lightbulb explosion. I am now psyched to move forward.

Week 4 Update
Finished the book...will start again tomorrow

1. What is your current weight?
166 (166) (165) (166)

2. What have you done well this week? What makes you proud of you?
I have exercised 7 days this week. Even on the day when life was so hectic that it would have been easier just to skip....I buckled down and exercised after my daughter was in bed. That is a huge step for me...guilt for not exercising...it makes me feel energized and proud of myself.

3. What could you be doing better or improving?
I think it is easier to focus on one change a month. So I will continue to exercise but increase my treadmill by 10 mins and my crunches by 2 more sets.
I will also make it my intent for the next month to try and get my daily 8-8oz glasses of water.

4. What is your game plan for week 5?
I will exercise 7 days this week....drink 8 glasses of water each day and try and remember to eat breakfast each day.

Forward to a better me.....

Its official!

As of 10:30pm, on Wednesday, September 21, I have knitted my first sock.
I made it out of Knitpicks Simple Stripes.
For a first attempt, I think it is alright. However, the crafter in me is seeing all the mistakes...lol The sock is a bit long and the heel just doesn't sit right when the sock is flat, but when it is on all is fine.

I am thrilled to say I have entered the world of sock knitters. Now to move onto two so that I can have a pair and actually wear my creation.

Promise pictures will be posted soon. Hubby has the camera on his vacation. I put a word into the Christmas fairy that it sure would be nice to have my own digital...let's see what Christmas brings.

Sunday weigh in and quote

Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.
-Les Brown, motivational author

1. What is your current weight? (165)(166) 166lbs
2. what have you done well this week? What makes you proud of you?
I have exercised 7 days this week...even on the days when I am busy I have fit exercise somewhere into the day. This is a big step for me....I am heading back on track.

3. what could you be doing better or improving?
I really must focus more on my food intake. I need to find healthier snacks and most definitely start eating breakfast again. Food and I need to find a better working relationship...enough tug of war stuff

4. What is your game plan for week4?
I need to make a menu and stick to it. Also, I need to find jobs to keep my hands busy and full so there is no room for the snacks...lol

This has been a difficult week for me. I hate when Hubby is away...all focus goes out the window...but I deserve what I am striving for...its time to remember what my goal is and shoot for that moon.

SP6 and SP5 bragging

Hi ya'll...that greeting is in honor of my new SP...the one spoiling me.
She is a southern gal...now how did I get so lucky?!?!?!
I am a die-hard southern wannabe. I love Gone with the Wind...one and two....I love the era of ladies and gentlemen...anything civil war based...I can listen to someone with a southern accent talk for hours and my favorite family vacation was a tour around Charleston and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I am really looking forward to getting to know you.

As for the one I am spoiling...I received her name today as well. I won't be saying much about her until the spoiling is done. Don't want to ruin the surprize, but let it be known I am looking forward to that blossoming friendship as well.

The SP5 experience was such a positive experience for me...my spoiler was Cindy She is guiding me in my sock journey. I have to admit my first attempt has resulted in a pile of pulled apart yarn on the floor but I have not been broken and will try again tomorrow.

The one I was spoiling was Jennifer
Now I want to take this moment to brag a bit about her. I am so proud to call this lady my friend. She will be leaving in a few days time to coucil those who have survived Hurricane Katrina. It just amazes me! We all try to help in our own way...sending money, making survival kits, gathering clothing and the list goes on...but Jennifer is the first person I know that is leaving the comfort of her own home to go into the unknown and offer a helping hand. She has no clue what to expect when she gets there but that is not stopping her from helping. So if you get a moment...stop by her blog and give her some words of support or prayers for this challenge ahead.

The SPs has been such a blessing for me. It is like the Penpals of my childhood. Getting to meet women from all corners of the world and walks of life is such a great experience. I look forward to doing this as long as they are around....a person can never have too many friends!!!

This is a great group that combines the reading of classic novels with knitting.

Sunday weigh in and quote

You will never find time for anything.
If you want time, you must make it.
- Charles Buxton, American writer

Isn't this the truth!

How many times have you said to yourself....I don't have the time....to visit with friends, to exercise, to eat right, to play more with your children, to spend quality time with your significant other or to do something for yourself.

We all get so caught up in the every day activities that we forget that time is in our control. I fall into this trap quite often I must sadly say.

So today is a new day.
I will make time for the things that are most important to me.
Today it is exercise.....

Well its official

As of today....my baby is in Grade five.
When I use to hear parents cry and moan about how the years flew by, I would roll my eyes and sigh.
Fast forward 10 years and here I am...crying and moaning myself.
Somewhere in that time, the tiny fragile china doll (only 5lbs 7oz and 18inches long) has grown into a young lady....I enjoy the time watching all the changes that she has encountered and fear the changes still to come.....

Hhhhmmmmmmmm

Now just what should these treasure become when they grow up???

Guess what? I'm not telling....LOL
Stay tuned in to find out!

It's like Christmas

Today I found in my lonely mailbox a parcel from my sweet SP.
She just made my day.

First each small gift was specially wrapped.

Then after I opened each of the special treasures this is what I found

My newfound gifts are a lavender candle, jasmine scented oil and a lightbulb ring, a mini scrapbook, a notepad that says "just for today....be happy", a x-stitch pattern for angel bookmarks and my prize possession "Stitch 'N Bitch" book.

Thank you so much for you generosity and kindness.
Now can you reveal yourself?

Lazy days of summer are ending

Yes you read that right....sigh
Summer is coming to an end, the days are getting shorter, the evenings cooler and school starts in 3 days. Where did the time go?

Well this realization is giving me the kick in the butt that I need.
Time to get back to what I started back in March....me and my health.

So this morning I started the exercising and healthy eating again.

My "8 minutes in the Morning" exercise book had a good quote this morning.
I think I might just put it on another paper by my computer, so that I can read it daily.

When health is absent
Wisdom cannot reveal itself,
Art cannot become manifest,
Strength cannot be exerted,
Wealth is useless, and
Reason is powerless.

-Herophilies, 300 B.C.

Creative time

Recently I was able to acquire a dresser and nightstand, gently used, from the local freecycle. My intent was to do something with it for my daughter's room.
Well regretfully the objects just sat in my garage gathering dust and my daughter became increasingly annoyed!

So then a creative urge came over me and in the span of 4 days, I created a masterpiece.

Naturally I was pleased with the experience. I had fun! I got to be creative! And finally the items were finished! My daughter was thrilled!!!!

Then the neighbor came over....she just had to see she said.
Once she left, she had gooshed over the items, hired me to paint her daughter's set and has encouraged me to branch out and do this for some extra cash.

Can you believe that?
Getting paid to play????
What a thought!!!!

Thursday, August 25, 2005

The old saying goes....

Pride goeth before a fall...LOL
And so it seems to be true!
Today I decided to get my act together and paint the furniture I had promised to finish for my daughter. The day was going well...primer done...coat one done....coat two finished....off I went to check my e-mail thinking to myself what a great job I was doing

BUT when I returned I found Kitty footprints on the top of the furniture which led down to the coach and proceded onto the hardwood and towards the stairs. Either the paint had dried by the time she met the carpet or she took a detour to the basement. Not sure yet..LOL

Easier to laugh now then before...as I was scrubbing and repainting.

So my cat now has purple feet...isn't she fancy!!!

apology to my SP

So sorry to my secret pal from SP5. In all the craziness of this summer I forgot to post a picture of the wonderful package she sent me last month. It included sock yarn, bamboo needles to make the socks, a journal to keep track of my projects, a pack of playing cards with a Harley on it, a wonderful hand-knit hat and a bracelet for my daughter. This package made my day...thank you so much SP!

Reminder of home

This trip wouldn't have been complete without visiting a place with my daughter's name. Just made more homesick...thank goodness we were heading home.

Hubby and I visiting Devil's Tower

Family fun

Even when out on a fun trip a motorcycle had to be incorporated.
Can you say obsessed...LOL

Needles

This was the beginning of the needles highway. What a site!
All these bikes pouring through the one-way tunnel....and the view from up top....WOW!

Crazy Horse

This project makes a person just stand and look in awe at how someone can dream so big.

Little BigHorn memorial

I'm back......

What a great vacation!
Good weather (except for a couple of rain storms), good friends and great scenery. Who could ask for more.

For those who don't know....I went on a trip with hubby to Sturgis.
It is an experience that all should have. There is everything from tame and mild to wild and crazy. It is a people watchers paradise...LOL

But as Dorothy said after her trip to OZ...there really is no place like home.

Its Vacation time......

Well it is finally here. Vacation!!!!
We leave tomorrow for a motorcycle trip....my first for a long distance.
Off to Sturgis to see how the bikers live...lol

For those of you who don't know what that is...it is a place in South Dakota where once a year the bikers of the world meet. It is sponsored by Harley Davidson however, ever type of biker seems to appear.

I am sure after this trip I will have tons to tell and show you all.

Back from the abyss.....

Hi all out in blog land.
How are you all doing? Not that I have that many reading my rantings...lol

I just realized it has been over a month since I last posted. And what a month it has been.
My absence began with my grandmother having a severe stroke. This put my life into a bit of a tailspin. This great woman was my "mother" so to speak. She took me in when my mother proved too young to raise me and she showered me with her love and guidance.

Even at this age (40 in 8 days) I feel a need for the mother figure.

Anyway after a struggle to hang on for 6 days...she finally let this world of pain go and moved on to a better place.

Now the grieving begins. Most days are okay but occassionally I find I am sailing into the abyss and not seeing a shore near at all.

I guess that is just the nature of grieving....Its difficult letting go of anything of value....let alone someone you love.

But I just wanted to let you know....I AM BACK!

INSPIRATION!

I just love inspiration thoughts....sayings that incite change for the better....anything that makes me strive to be all that I can be and more.

I have hordes of books, files and cds that appeal to this side of my nature.
This is probably one of the reasons I bought the book "8 Minutes in the Morning" by Jorge Cruise. Not only does it instruct me on exercises for each morning and foods that are beneficial to my quest of health...it also starts each day with a motivational thought, or phrase.

This quote really hit home with everything in my life the last couple of months.

Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up.
Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.
By Michael Jordan, US basketball player

Makes you think....hhhhmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gopher dance!!!???!!!

Has anyone out there seen the movie "Caddyshack"?

Throughout my university years, whenever something was good, my gang would dance around like the gopher in the movie....it was hilarious to see a bunch of 20 year olds moving their butts around in a group. The image brings back great memories.

Anyway....on Tuesday I became that young soul once again.
I am sure people must of thought me insane.

Lately, my hubby has nicknamed me "droopy drawers". An endearing name he thinks but I don't...so I decided I needed a couple new pair of pants, shorts or something. I went into Reitmans and went to grab the size 13 (one size down from what I wore in the winter months) however, on a whim I decided to grab the size 11 as well.

After endouring the horrors of the change room and its humongous mirror....I left with 2 new skorts....drum roll please...in size 11.....OMG!!!

That means since changing my eating habits, my cleanse and exercising religiously....I have dropped 2 sizes on the bottom half of me....yipee!!!!!!!

See me do the Gopher Dance....shaking my smaller butt all over....LOL

It rained for 4 days off and on and then 4 days of constantly rain....this resulted in the town being put on flood alert. Even us on the hill were concerned for our basements. Thank goodness for sun....finally! Posted by Hello

Not too shabby for about 60 bikers. Whoever said that bikers are scary rowdy men, obviously never knew a true biker. They have hearts of gold! Posted by Hello

Hopes for the future

Today is my day to be accountable for my actions...sigh
Exercise hasn't been too much of a struggle, but wise eating choices sure has been.

I was watching The View the other day....Renee Zellweger was on. They were talking about her and how she can gain for "Bridget Jones" and then loose it to become "Roxy Hart". She said she just ate how the character would eat and then she goes back to how she eats. But she wouldn't be specific...then Joy got ahold of her. She finally admitted she eats fruit/coffee for breakfast, salad and grilled salmon for lunch and the same for supper or an egg white omelette. Fridays are free to eat anything.

I must admit that as much as I would love her body, I am not sure if I am disciplined enough to eat like that...sigh I just enjoy food way too much. But maybe I could do the lunch and breakfast and then add a bit more to supper. Time to think things through.

Goal update:

What is your current weight? 170lbs
What have you done well this week? What makes you proud of you?
I stuck to my exercises for 5 of the 7 days in the week.
Made semi-good choices for meals....considering I was eating out for both days.
What could you be doing better or improving?
I need to make better meal choices and plan ahead
What is your game plan for next week?
I will eat well-balanced meals (3) plus 2 healthy snacks each day
I will exercise 7 days this week

My new treat Posted by Hello

Tuesday, May 31, 2005

Its treat time!

I have learned one thing from being a mom....everyone loves a treat!
Also I have learned that I am no different...lol
For all the hard work I have been putting in lately, I decided my treat should be some type of clothing.

My choice is a cute tank top made out of a luscious dark orange/yellow/light orange wool....more on the cotton side.

New clothes for the new body...perfect treat!

Iridology

So have any of you seen an oogie-boogie look in the eye doctor?
That is my view on iridology. It is freaky! Amazing! And very acurate!
I was introduced to my doctor by my aunt. She was tired of the band-aid views of Western medicine and was referred to Blair by a friend.
When you visit...you fill out your name and address and say nothing else.
It amazed her so much she said "you just have to try it!"
So I did....and that was 3 years ago.

Blair combines iridology(a diagnostic science in which the study of markings in specific areas of the iris are used to indicate dysfunction in corresponding organs of the body) and other beliefs from complimentary medicine practices to make a diagnosis. After this he gives you a list of herbs to take and foods to avoid.

As strange as it may seem to some....and you must have an open mind to alternative medicine for this to work....I believe in it completely.
Whenever I feel off...not quite right...it is time to reconnect with Blair. And that is just what I did last week.

Well.....
Blair says my kidney ducts are partially blocked...this is why I am retaining water, feeling tired and sluggish and just out of wack.
Suggestions....avoid...chocolate, peanut butter, almonds/butter, greasy foods, dairy, sweets, wheat, breads and pasta...sigh
Herbs of choice....dandelion supreme...for my kidney ducts and supreme minerals for my blood.
I go back in early July to see how things are progressing.

Once again this way of living isn't for everyone but I am happy with the results so far.
Not only am I gaining more energy....but this way of eating is really helping with my "getting healthy" kick.

So hopefully Blair has me on the right track.

Goal Setting

I think the hardest part to losing weight and changing my lifestyle is the goal setting.
I am always setting the goals but the follow through is a a different story.
Lately I have following the book "8 Minutes in the Morning" by Jorge Cruise.
At the end of week one he has you answer 4 questions.

1. What is your current weight? (also write down your original weight)
- 170 lbs

2. What have you done well this week?
- I have followed through with some type of exercise every day.
What makes you proud of you?
- Sticking to my goal of the week

3. What could you be doing better or improving?
- I could make better choices for snacking and meals

4. What is your game plan for week 2?
- I will exercise everyday....increasing my treadmill time to 40 mins and I will stop eating after 7 at night.

Maybe if I write the changes down....it will get easier

A new start...a new day

Hi all :-)
I hold my head down in shame.
Once my cleanse was over I was so thrilled to see food again, I went insane....lol
But now it is back to reality and my goals.

Today is a new day and my quote for the day is

You will never find time for anything. If you want time, you must make it!
By Charles Buxton, American writer

This so true. More than most are willing to admit.
For the past two weeks I have made it a priority to do some type of exercise (usually the treadmill). On the days that I skip, it is usually because I have let other things be a priority.
Plus I end up feeling gross for the neglect.

So I make myself a new promise....I am a priority!
My health, my body, my outlook on life...all are important.

I weighed in at 170 lbs.
42 inch chest, 36 3/4 inch waist and 40 inch hips
This is my starting point.....time to move forward.

My goal for this week is 7 days of intentional exercise and no snacking after 7 pm at night.
I will add to my changes each week or so. Would hate to scare myself into failure.

Time to begin.

Cleanse...day 9 & 10

Nothing really new to report.
Other than one day of yuck...the only change has been my menu.
I guess if that is the biggest change...me thinking about what I am putting in my mouth...then it is all worth it.

I went to a movie on Saturday...now that was fun!
All those smells...yum. I am a junkfood junkie when watching movies...sigh.
I settled in with my bottle of water and a couple bites of my hubby's popcorn to tied me over.

Boredom is definitely setting in with this diet.
I am starting to miss the variety and flavors of food....guess 12 days is longer than I imagined...LOL
Only 2 days left...I can do it.

After the cleanse I am off on working the Dr. Phil way of thinking.
I began reading his book and am on chapter 2...emotional eating..boy is that me!
Stress, happy, sad, family get-to-gethers, lonliness, celebration, consultation..you name it.
It is definitely a good read so far.

Also I am starting intentional exercise today....30 mins to start with.

Hopefully this will continue to be a positive experience.
